I am currently working in two areas of glaucoma research at the Kellogg Eye Center.
The first area is meeting with patients and their relatives that would like to participate in our Glaucoma Genetics Research Study. This allows me to inform possible participants of the objectives of our study; discovering genes involved in the development of glaucoma, possible factors that may cause variation in the severity of glaucoma, and possible factors that may cause variation in patients' response to treatment.
The second area that I am currently working in is surgically extracting the trabecular meshwork (HTM) and Schlemm's canal tissue from human eyes that are donated for research. These cells are then grown using tissue culture technology. Such cultures are used to prepare reagents for microarray technology and cDNA library construction for gene expression studies that are carried out in our research laboratories.
