Research Interests
My work in Dr. Richard's Lab has been a new experience
and a new challenge because research opportunities in opthalmology
are quite limited in my home country of Paraguay.
I am currently working on mutation screening in genes that cause glaucoma
including
TIGR/MYOC
,
OPTN
, and
LMX1B,
in several study populations. I am particularly interested in Latin American populations.
We have already found a novel mutation in one Colombian individual and hope to
find additional mutations as we continue our screening studies in Latin Americans.
I am also increasing my knowledge and skills in cell culture techniques.
