Research Interests
I provide bioinformatics programming support to the Richards research group.
My research focuses on developing integrated solutions to streamline the research data pipeline,
improve data quality, and reduce error rates. I strive to understand problems
globally before implementing solutions. Two areas of current research related to genome-wide human
linkage studies are:
- Developing better methods for automated allele binning and error detection, and:
- Developing better methods for visualizing haplotyping results.
Two programs which incorporate products of my research are:
- Cicada, a web-based database system
for acquisition, storage, verification, normalization, quality control, and management of genetic marker information.
This system now includes an interactive, histogram-based editor for verifying and editing allele calls.
- Madeline, a program for preparing,
visualizing, and exploring human pedigree data used in genetic linkage studies.
